In funding news Truepill has secured $25 million series B funding, to help them build API connected healthcare infrastructure. Co-founder and CEO Umar Afridi built a B-2-B model to create a direct to patient experience across the whole healthcare ecosystem. Kindbody a fertility and gynaecology based company has raised $32 million in series B funding and Mission Therapeutics, a Cambridge based, English drug discovery and development company has raised £12 million. The latest in health tech news, individuals with cystic fibrosis (CF) who are at a higher risk from coronavirus are being given spirometers to measure their lung capacity. VIRTI is mobilising an immersive training platform to rapidly upskill the NHS workforce to tackle COVID-19. The company has been awarded funding as part of the NHSX's TechForce 19 challenge. The round was led by Seroba life sciences and funding will support the advancement of the product pipeline. Read more here. The 'digital divide' has become increasingly prominent in light of the recent pandemic, especially in countries with significant ageing populations. A child has been given the worlds first drone-delivered vaccine in Vanuatu. A registered nurse, Miriam Nampil vaccinates the child with a BCG vaccine to prevent tuberculosis and Hepatitis B. With countries beginning to emerge from lockdown, governments have been introducing ways to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus. The COVID-19 Open Research Dataset initiative uses natural language processing to analyze scientific papers about coronavirus. Africa’s largest innovation incubator, CcHub, will offer funding and engineering support to tech projects aimed at curbing COVID-19 and its social and economic impact. Read more here. In funding news, The European Investment Bank (EIB) will use its InnovFin Infectious Disease Finance Facility, to finance research on halting the spread of COVID-19, but also on cures and vaccine development. Unmind, a London-based workplace mental health platform, was founded in 2016 by Dr. NickTaylor. The company has raised € 9.1M. The platform provides small to large companies with a way to help manage and measure employees mental wellbeing through assessments that are scientifically-backed. Oxford VR, a company based in Oxford closes £10M in series A funding. The company was founded in 2017, as a spin out from Oxford University’s department of Psychiatry. They provide automated VR therapy that translates cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) through virtual reality to provide evidence based treatment.
