Wes Streeting, the health secretary, has vowed to “end the 8am scramble” for appointments by ensuring that all surgeries offer online booking. 

The number of “tick-box” performance targets imposed on GPs will also be cut from 77 to 44 under the proposed new contract for NHS surgeries.
